Today not only marks the availability of Office 2010 for organizations, but also the immediate availability of Office Mobile 2010 for all Windows Mobile 6.5 based phones with an earlier version of Office Mobile FOR FREE! via Windows Phone Marketplace. Simplifying Desktop Virtualization
We’ve been talking a lot lately about the value of desktop virtualization and how to get the biggest bang for your buck from it. We certainly recognize that you have your work cut out for you – managing your technology infrastructure in a way that ensures the highest degree of security and compliance while also managing the proliferation of applications in your environment especially if users are able to download their own apps. These factors and others are all contributing to the growing popularity of desktop virtualization. The challenge we realize is how to make sense out of this complex topic while distilling all the information available in a meaningful way. We also recognize it’s a broad term and there are different ways to...

Understanding How Microsoft Push Notification Works – Part 2
In the previous post - Understanding Microsoft Push Notifications for Windows Phones, you learned what push notifications (PN) are and why we need them. In this post, we’ll explain a little about how Microsoft Push Notification (MPN) service works behind the scenes and who the different players are. There are three players in the push notification game: The backend Web application, or cloud service, that communicates with your Windows Phone 7 application— for example thinks about the Facebook Web site and its companion WP application. The Windows Phone device—and not your WP7 application, because if your application is currently running, there is little need to use MPN. But if your application is not running, then the MPN...
Use Office Web Apps on SkyDrive to take over the world!
It’s been a pretty wild last 8 months since we launched the Office Web Apps Technical Preview on SkyDrive. We’ve had so much demand for the technical preview that we had to expand its availability, and we’ve seen a lot of excitement about the integration of our web apps with the Office 2010 Beta. Messenger across the web
As Jeff and Piero mentioned yesterday, the newest version of Messenger (beta coming soon) is designed to be the most meaningful way to stay in touch with the people who matter most, keeping you connected with your friends and what they’re doing across the web. We have made it possible for people to quickly see what their friends are doing on social sites like Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn. But of course, people love shopping, they love watching videos and viewing photos, and they love finding great local places to eat, relax, and spend time with others. So while the big social networks are important, there are tons of other experiences that customers want to stay up to date with. Earlier today, John Richards and Angus Logan...
Preview of the new Windows Live Messenger
We’ve spent the last few months posting about how we look at the industry, the key customer problems that are top-of-mind for us, and where we think we can improve the lives of our customers. Today in a speech at the Universidade de São Paulo in Brazil, Steve Ballmer is sharing a preview of the new Windows Live Messenger. In this post we want to talk more about our philosophy and approach for this new version. In subsequent posts we’ll go into more depth on different aspects of the experience. As Chris laid out in his blog post last week, the world of instant messaging has evolved in the last 14 years. In the early days of IM, most of your close friends were on one IM network, connected using their PCs, and sent text-only...
