How to Create a 32-bit Windows Explorer Shortcut in Vista 64-bit

Information

This easy to create shortcut will open the Computer Windows Explorer window with the 32 bit shell to enable use of 32 bit shell extensions in Vista 64 bit.

Note

From inside this shortcut, any folder you navigate to will be running as 32 bit. Try out the shell extensions of some of your 32 bit programs to verify it if you like.

Here's How:

1. Right click on the desktop and select New and Shortcut.

2. Where it says "type the location of this item" paste the string in bold below.

NOTE: It should be all on one line. (The long alphanumeric inside the braces is a code that corresponds to the "Computer" special folder. There are others for Documents etc..)

3. Click on Next.

4. Type in a name for the shortcut. For example, I used the name Explorer32.

5. Click on Finish.

6. Double-click to test it.

7. Now you can just drag the shortcut to your QuickLaunch bar, or to where you like for easy use.

Easy.
