Today I installed 6 updates that were released April 7, 2008. However, upon doing so, ALL of my Windows settings were revered to factory: desktop, taskbar, program files, everything. The installed updates were as follows:
  • KB947864 - Cumulative Secutiry Update for IE7 for x64-based Systems
  • KB948881 - S.U. for ActiveX Killbits for x64-based Systems
  • KB941693 - S.U. for W.V. for x64-based Systems
  • KB948590 - S.U. for W.V. for x64-based Systems
  • KB938371 - Update for W.V. for x64-based Systems
  • KB890830 - Win. Malicious Software Removal Tool x64
Luckily, system restore was able to revert to my pre-update settings, but I have no idea which update(s) caused this issue. If anyone can shed some light on this situation, I'd appreciate it.

Also, I suggest a bit of caution when updating until this situation is resolved, unless you're looking to restore your system to factory.

    My computer is pretty.
Didn't see exactly that...but yesterday's updates did not go well for me. I encountered them upon shutting down the computer and it sat with the update message for "2 of 7" for > 14 hours...finally ending within 20 hours.

Afterwards, I see that KB941693 succeeded, KB938371 failed and the rest were ignored. I did all the updates except the MSRT (I mistakenly thought that was the one which failed) from the windows update tool and the updates succeeded.

Again, I am glad my system isn't hosed. All the updates installed and work perfectly on my upgraded HP Pavilion a6110n.

I am really starting to wonder if Vista 64 isn't just hosed in general. I have never had an issue with the 32 bit versions on my desktop and laptop.
