I have Vista 64-bit Home Premium. I managed to locate a copy of XP Sound Recorder, which I installed in C:\Windows\System32, & it seems to work fine.
The sole reason I installed XP Sound Recorder was to quickly & easily reduce the file size of wavs, by converting them to MPEG Layer-3 32Kbit Mono 22,050Hz.
(I have Audacity, which can certainly fulfill the same function – but it’s faster & easier through XP Sound Recorder.)
HOWEVER…
When converting file properties in my newly-installed XP Sound Recorder, it lacks the MPEG Layer 3 option in Format. Whoops! It’s a codec, & not part of the program.
I then downloaded both the 32-bit & 64-bit Vista Codec Package – but still no luck.
Does the Vista Codec Package even include an MPEG Layer 3 codec? (I thought it did.)
If so, how do I associate it with XP Sound Recorder?
Thanks in advance…
