Hello, I know that this is a Vista forum but someone just gave my kid brother
a brand new (in storage for the last 18 mos.) Dell with XP SP2 on it.

Would this be a good link for him to get XP SP3 from?

Hi Ted,

My personal opinion on Service Packs is to download the stand-alone versions and place a copy on a CD/DVD and then install from that. If you then reinstall your OS you can quickly redeploy the Service Pack. As your brother's "new" PC has been in storage for quite some time, it is probably in need of quite a few updates. All of these updates are included in SP3, so it would make sense to install it this way so that all relevant updates are installed. I know that I don't need to remind you, but make sure that your brother installs some form of Internet Security prior to him going on-line. When your brother is on-line, the first thing he should do is to manually update both his security program(s) and Windows itself - there are a number of updates that have been released after SP3.
