XP on Alternate Drive

Hi. I currently have Windows Vista Home Premium x64 on the SATA drive I am using now. I am trying to install Windows XP Home Edition on my IDE hard drive (WDC WD3200AAJB-22WGA0 ATA Device).

I am asking for your help in letting me know what drivers I will need to install during the XP installation, as I am getting a BSOD error during installation which is likely being caused by lack of RAID/SCSI drivers.

In a traditional Win XP install, you will be prompted to hit "F6" to install RAID or SCSI drivers. However, as you are not running a RAID setup, I would think those files would be unnecessary.

what version of xp home are you trying to install? i believe that you need at least xp sp1 to install it on a mobo with sata, as i am assuming that you have sata hdd connections, right? you might need the motherboard chipset drivers for xp to be able to install xp on your system.

just googled your stop code, it seems that it is a code for inaccessible boot device:

you more than likely need the drivers so windows can recognize the hdd's by way of the sata connections. my guess.

In my experience, XP, regardless of SP, installs on either SATA or IDE.

How are you going about the dual-boot process? Where are you getting the hang-up?

1) sorry, i should have been a little more specific: what service pack is integrated into xp? sp 1, 2, 3, or no service pack?

2) that's a good question that i don't know right at this moment (concerning the installation of xp to an ide drive)

3) i don't know if that is the driver you need or not, sorry. one, i don't have an nvidia chipset, and two, i would think that you'd be able to get the necessary drivers from the nvidia website. the link you have may or may not be what you need, and i have no way of knowing of a certain.

4) did you read the microsoft help links above?

yeah, you needed to install xp on a sata drive by using the F6/install additional drivers during setup. don't quote me, but i believe that after sp1, you didn't need to use the F6 functions for mainstream boards / hdds. and of course, sp2 and 3 expanded the whole thing further. however, even with the service packs enabling xp installations on sata drives, you still may run into a board / drive combo that won't install unless you install the necessary drivers.

I have SP2 on my XP installation disc.

I have read the two, I have read a lot into this stop error and I do not think it is a boot virus and I know it isn't a hardware error because Ubuntu and other OS will install just fine, so I am thinking it is an issue with drivers. Now I just need someone to help me and let me know what drivers I need to slipstream. :(

I'm using nLite now to create an .iso and update the disc for SP2 to SP3, but I doubt that helps. So the driver that I should be looking for (if any) would be a motherboard chipset driver?

yeah, you shouldn't have a problem. obviously, the image you end up with will be slightly larger than a "default" xp image, but as long as you can burn the image, you should be fine. just for example, i slipstreamed vista sp1, as well as some other drivers and ended up with an image that barely fit onto a single dvd--it was quite large.

I was wondering if there is a way I can run XP installation straight from an ISO, using ISO mounting software like Daemon Tools, and still install it on an alternate drive other than the one I am on?

Alright, downloaded this: nForce Driver
It's an EXE, on nLite you can only include INF files. I'm on Vista x64 and I fear installing this and then extracting the INF(s) may cause harm to my system and possibly overwrite my existing drivers. What can I do?
