Im a first time user of x64 after trying XP x64 and it sucked.

I have a couple of problems. Firefox regularly crashes for no apparent reason. Anyone know why?

Also the load on my CPU is permanently over 50% and the hard drives spin for no reason....

My system is quad core q6600 with 5gb ddr3 RAM and ATI 3870 HD
HD was fully formatted before fresh installation

I would be most grateful for help, dont really want to go back to x86 and have 3.2gb of RAM.

Well, you might want to start by running Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and see what processes are running that are consuming your CPU time, and report back here. You might see the hard drives spinning for awhile on startup as windows indexing system is at work, this is no cause for alarm. If it goes on for hours, then there is something wrong... --ch

windows or search indexing is pretty spooky and it takes a long time. I got tired of it and disabled it since I can find anything I search anyways (still stuck on XP search).

If you do use Windows search a lot, leave it enabled.

Usually, the best solution for a firefox that crashes a lot is to simply completely uninstall firefox, and then reinstall it from scratch. Usually fixes my problems.

Do remember to backup your bookmarks though.

as for the other problems, the people above gave good advice. Check task manager to see what is eating up your resources.

Are you using the All-In-One bookmark sidebar? I was having issues with Firefox crashing and didn't figure it out unyil I got my new system and started fresh with the browser. I recomend clearing out all your add-ons, uninstalling Firefox and starting over.

First , though, sign up for Foxmarks, they store your bookmarks online.

Good luck,
Dean
