Wsock32.dll

Hey,

Lately when I try and lunch some programs I get the error message WSOCK32.dll any one know what this is? Could this be something to do with hardware?

I think it is an error with one for your DLL registry files...

Well you could download a replacement file from Microsoft, or you could pop in your Vista install disk and hit repair.

Dang.
Look in your system32 folder to see if it is there. If it is not, then its missing, if it is then its corrupted.

Do you have a vista disk?

Hi,

Yeah its showing still in the system 32 folder, I do have the vista disk, is there anyway that I can just get this file off the disk without having to do a repair install? I tried downloading this file off the net but it said that it was an older version from the one that was currently installed. Would it be ok to replace it with this one? or do I need to get the one off the vista disk?

I would search the disc for it. I don't know the location of the file though on the disc.

Yeah that should fix it.

Just pop in your disk, and run sfc /scannow, and that should repair it for you. Follow Shawn's tutorial above if you need to.

I thought it should do as well, but it did not, I ran it twice when the problem started happenning, both times it reports that there are no corrupt system files, odd. Any ideas?

I do and I have removed this now, the problem has not come back yet though, is there anyway that I can get Xfire working in 64bit?

if ur trying to launch a game with xfire & winsock message pops up, u need to dump 4 files into the xfire folder.

Go to C:\windows\syswow64

Find the wsock32.dll & put it in the c:\program files (86)\xfire folder

Do the same with

msimg32.dll
oleacc.dll
winmm.dll

OR

Turn on UAC!

I did post about this on xfire's forums that its trying to access the wrong system directory or something when UAC is disabled, but they didnt take any notice. So i posted the fix on there but they didnt sticky...

Thanks dude :D I had exactly the same problem I encountered it when trying to play Dead Space with xfire running Dumped the files to it's directory, hope it helps :D

I myself have not run into a problem with xFire, though I run it very rarely.
