WMP 11 appearing disappearing suddenly on Task Manager

Hi everybody,

I can't open anymore WMP 11. When clicking on it, nothing happens. It appears less than 1 sec on the Task Manager, process tab, and disappears suddenly. I set up Windows Media Player to the Set Default Programs List but nothing changes.

I can't restore as my restore fonction on Vista is disabled.

FixWMP tool works great, I run it on my Admin account but it can't fix my trouble. As I got the following error trying to register jscript.dll (this dll important to run WMP): "dllregisterserver failed with error code 0x80004005 " 0x80004005 is related to an access denied. I suspect that even if I'm in on my admin account, something is wrong.

Start under search type in CMD and Right Click and Run as administrator then type in

regsvr32.exe wmp.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll

1. For Windows Vista 32-bit: cd C:\windows\System32
   For Windows Vista 64-bit: cd C:\windows\SysWow64

Type the following command and hit Enter: regsvr32 jscript.dll

The error 0x80004005 mean that the concern part of regedit (registry) to register the dll is locked. Which strings in the regedit are concerned by jscript and vbscript ?

Do you have any codec packs like K-Lite, VLC or Shark ? If so uninstall it and test it.

I uninstalled K-Lite codecs and try to register again as admin, jscript and vbscript dll. I got again the same errors.

So, I decided to reinstall K-Lite codecs and I get an error in the installation :

"HKEY CLASSES ROOT/icx code 5 Access Denied"

So I need to unlock HKEY CLASSES ROOT on my registry given the permissions, this exactely what I told you yesterday, but I don't know how exactely to do, I'm afraid

Start | CMD | Right Click and Run as administrator then type in secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose this will reset the Default Security Template.

How do I restore security settings to the default settings?

I don't want to remove standard users account. I prefer another suggestion not so drastically.

I think that given the right permission on Hkey Classes Root, it will be fixed.
