Wireless Mouse Hesitating

I'm having this major trouble with my wireless laser mouse (MS Wireless laser mouse 6000). I have the latest software/driver from MS for Vista 64 bit. The issue is that the quality of the reception is not where it should be. The mouse point stutters/hesitates in a way, not smooth at all. I have to admit the receiver is barely a foot away from the mouse due to really tight desk space. I've tried the right side of the mouse, left side (almost 2 ft away), same problem. The control panel shows the signal to be good, full bars and battery is full bars. However, its not much the case.

- tried brand new Duracell batteries, same issue.

- tried a different hub port and directly connected to the laptop, same issue.

- tried uninstalling / reinstalling the driver

- did a reset as well (pushing receiver button, then mouse button) a few times.

Specs:

Vista 64 bit Ultimate
MS Wireless Lasermouse 6000 (model 1052)
Driver: 6.20.178.0
D-Link Router DIR-655 (had similar issue using Belkin Pre-N router as well)

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Have you tried updating the driver for your USB controller?

This may sound a bit sarcastic at first glance, but it truly is not intended to be. When troubleshooting mouse performance it is also important to remember to check that you are not overlooking something obvious.

1. Make sure the optical sensor is not obstructed with any lint or dust (turn your mouse over and blow it out).

2. Use a non-reflective mousing surface (laminate desktop surfaces can be extremely unfriendly to optical/laser mice).

I only mention these suggestions because I have suffered from both at one time or another...
