Wireless is gone

So I have a Compaq Presario V6000 Notebook PC
I've posted a problem on this site before and I figured it out on my own. Now all of a sudden, what I used to do, doesn't work anymore.
Whenever my wireless stopped working I would shut my computer down. I'd do a primary hard drive test. It would fix my wireless almost guaranteed. I tried it earlier today and it didn't work.
Now I got this screen telling me I need the Vista CD to resolve a problem with one of the drivers.
I don't have the Vista CD. My laptop came with the program not the CD.
I checked with my manufacture website and I even downloaded an HP Support Assistant.
It says everything is up to date.
Help?

My Computer

You can't connect wireless and your sure that the drivers are up to date?

If so open up a command prompt and type: netsh wlan show interface

post the results, please :)

Check to make sure the service is still running also. In the start search bar type Services.msc > hit enter > accept the UAC > then scroll all the way down and look for Wireless Auto Config or Something similar, make sure its running and set to auto start.

A primary harddrive test shouldn't have resolved your network issue. However a few quick steps:

Reinstall the device driver. If you're on Vista just right click on it in device manager, uninstall and restart.
Make sure that your WLAN light is a solid Yellow or Green (It depends on your model). If that doesn't work, you could possibly be looking at a bad wireless nic.

Something else that rarely works, but works none the less is System Restore. Best of luck to ya'!

Alright well after I downloaded the driver, it worked. Thank you a lot; but now all of a sudden I have bad connection. I've never had this problem before. Now only if I'm close to the router does my laptop connect. If I'm in the other room, it disconnects.
I've even been able to go outside and chill before.
Now it just decided to stop working.

My Computer

Are you connecting with n or g? If the problem wasn't there in the first place, but its there now, did the router ever change position?

It's never changed places.
Also, it seems whenever I shut down my computer, the driver disappears again.
Almost like I've never downloaded it.
So I'd have to reinstall it all over again.

My Computer

Either there is a problem with Vista itself or there is a problem with the hardware in the laptop.

My computer keeps telling me I need to put the Vista CD in.
I don't have the CD.
My computer came with the program; not the CD.
Although I'm PRETTY sure I have one copy around somewhere.
But we moved and such.

You don't need the actual Vista CD. Here is what I would do.
- I would save everything I have that I need / or might need to a external source.
- you don't need the CD's for this item. type recover in the start search bar and run that > should be an option for full system recovery. use that. AFTER ALL YOUR IMPORTANT DATA IS BACKED UP!
- This would give the computer a fresh new start.
- Un-install all of the garbage programs that come with the machine and install Vista SP2 and all the drivers for the machine.
- Should run like a top after that. Since you posted the machine model name and number I can compile the drivers you will need for you in this post.

Also, what is the model number, V6000T, V6000TX, V6000AU, V6000Z?

what you can do is install another router as repeater

  1. Open the manual for your router, and locate the instructions to access the web-based configuration interface. If you do not have a physical copy of the manual, most manufacturers offer a PDF version on their website.
  2. Step 2
Connect your computer to the router using a standard Ethernet cable. Be sure to plug it into one of the downstream ports, not the upstream, or WAN, port.
  3. Step 3
Open your favorite web browser. Type the IP address of your router into the address bar, just after the “http://” that begins most web addresses. Normally, the IP address of the router will be something similar to 192.168.0.1, and you should find the default address for your router in the manual.
  4. Step 4
Type the user name and password into the window that pops up. Many routers will use “admin” as the default entry for both the user name and password, though you may need to consult the manual for your specific router. After the password is entered, the router will display its initial status page, with links to the various administration settings.
  5. Step 5
Locate the page that allows you to change the IP address of the router. The address should be changed so that it is not the same as the main router on the network, or any other network devices. If the main router on the network is set to use 192.168.1.1, the router that will be used as a repeater should use a higher number, such as 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.10, depending on how many devices are on the network.
  6. Step 6
Disable the router’s DHCP server. This setting should be on the same page as the IP address, but each router is a little different. When the router is operating normally, this server assigns an IP address to every device that is connected to it. Because this router will be used as a repeater only, the IP addresses will now be handled by the main router on the network.
  7. Step 7
Turn off the DNS server, if it is activated. This function will be taken over by the main router, or by the ISP that provides the internet connection to your location.
  8. Step 8
Disable any firewall or that is built into the router. Usually, this can be done in the “Security” section, and it may require you to alter several settings, depending on the make and model of the router.
  9. Step 9
Remove any entries that are located in the “Port Forwarding” section. On some routers, this may be referred to as “Applications and Gaming,” and it allows certain programs to have less-restricted access to the internet.
  10. Step 10
Set the operating mode switch to “Gateway” or “Switch” if such a setting is available. In addition, if the router is a wireless router and has the appropriate settings, disable the wireless access or set it to function as an access point only.
  11. Step 11
Save the settings as necessary on each page, and reboot the router. After the router boots back up, the changes should allow it to act more or less as a simple repeater. Now, you simply move the router to its new location in the middle of the long cable run, connect all the cords, and power it up.

Not to bump an old thread, But you do have the option to create the recovery discs for your computer. Type RECOVERY into "Start Search" from the Start menu. You could try that, but is that message coming up for any particular software you try to launch?

My Computer

I'm so sorry I haven't replied.
My computer is a V6000AU
And 'Recover' doesn't work.
I press it and nothing happens. After I put everything on a different external hard drive.

My Computer

Try this. *Netsh Winsock Reset* from an elevated command prompt, ( Without the stars ) and then reboot the computer.
