Did you get a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death)? Doesn't sound like it.

If yes, though, a minidump? If so, please upload; if not:

Right click on "My Computer", click on Properties, click on Advanced tab, click on Startup and Recovery Settings.

Make sure that "Automatically restart" is unchecked, and that "Small memory dump" is selected under "Write debugging information", and that "Overwrite any existing file" is unchecked.

If it happens again, upload the minidump file.

What were you running when the error happened? Sounds like a Windows Update?

It would also be helpful if you could download VistaForums SysInfo Tool, run a complete run, export to a file, and upload.

no bsod found the windowswcpstorecorruption problem in problems reports and solutions only just found it yesterday,it happened nearly a month ago but it was the day after a friend of mine looked at my computer to tell me what progs i could install but i don,t know what he did but i been having probs since,i know he ran a registry cleaner on it.

My Computer

It's difficult to isolate a problem that happened a month ago. What are the problems you've been having since? As much detail as you have.

You've got to be careful running registry cleaners. Some can cause more problems than they supposedly fix. Avoid them unless you have some very specific reason and you know it's safe.

most of my problems now are just with programs crashing and hanging is that something i need to worry about, also in the start up programs a couple of the programs won,t start i get error message saying missing file path,is that caused by running a registry cleaner do you know.

My Computer

Sorry for delay; been having my own system problems.

This might take a while.

I suggest you:

1. Run chkdsk /f on all your disks.

2. Open a command prompt (Run > Cmd) and run sfc /scannow. This will verify all your system files. If it detects errors that it hasn't repaired, you should run it again until it's either clean or comes up with the same errors. See How to analyze the log file entries that the Microsoft Windows Resource Checker (SFC.exe) program generates in Windows Vista. The sfcdetails.txt file is saved in the directory that Cmd starts in (normally C:\Windows\System32).

3. Download VistaForums SysInfo Tool, install and run, Select All and export to a file.

4. Upload both the sfcdetails file and the SysInfo file (zip them into one file if you have problems), and report on your chkdsk results.

We'll work from there.

Can you be a little more specific about the problems?

When you get program crashes, what error messages do you get? What programs crash? Anything in common about the circumstances?

Programs that don't start - is the following correct? You click on the shortcut in Start Menu and the error comes up immediately saying "missing file path"? Again, what programs and what's the exact message?

In the meantime, you could try doing a startup repair Startup Repair: frequently asked questions and see if that helps.

My Computer

Try the startup repair first.
