my computer just randomly decided to update itself while i was playing world of warcraft. then it went to a black screen for a few minutes, gave me the blue screen of death, when i restarted my pc it gave me more updates then it started to lag out my pc like crazy, using up all my physical and kernal memory. i went to task manager to find out what it was and found out it was the NT Kernal using all my memory when nothing is running. i tried a system restore, and when it was done the same thing is still happening. if anyone can tell me what the heck is going on that would be amazing.

Which process are you calling the "Kernal"? Do you mean System (PID=4)?

CPU utilisation by the system process is notoriously difficult to troubleshoot because many drivers also have their code executed in that process context. In other words, it might be your NIC driver, sound driver, video driver, anti-virus driver, 3rd-party firewall driver... and it's far from simple to tell which. (It requires the use of a very sophisticated utility called a profiler.)

Anyway, I'd suggest trying to update literally all drivers, starting with any hardware you've added most recently.
