Generally with XP or Vista a quick format will suffice. The full format option is when you need to insure a virus or other unwanted elements are gone for good! That will still take longer.

so how can i do a full format when i install a fresh copy of windows vista?

During the installation the option to check off or uncheck the format option is seen there. Or you can simply boot into the drive tools section and select the format option also seen there.

For ease simply check to see that the format check box is set to go for you there. On one reinstall while wanting everything intact I inadvertently left that checked off to see everything wiped! The annoyance was spending the time recopying everything back onto the drive afterwards. :o:(:D

XP, Vista, and even 7 betas use the NTFS 5.0 file system. The one difference between all three is the ability to see XP installed on Fat16 or Fat32 primaries being backward compatible to the File Allocation Table(Fat) with the older version being the intended ugrade from the 9x-ME family of Windows.
