Windows updates Rebooting

windows updated, now when it restarts it keeps coming up with " Configuring updates " stage 3 of 3 0% Do not turn Off, its done this for many times. anyone please tell me how to skip this stage when starting windows .... Thanks

Hiya Tipher88, Blimey .. i let is sit for at least 2 hours !! and in the time it must have rebooted 15 maybe 20 times.. thing is i didn't like the idea of tuning it off as the info box was saying do not turn the computer. in the end i had to, so i waited till it was about to reboot then shut it down. I had given it another go but just the same ....

I don't know if I'll be able to help you further but the info will hopefully be enough to give someone else an idea of what is going on.

I am assuming that something went wrong with the update...but that seems a little obvious. I gotta leave work though, I'll check back to see what ya put once I get home and I'll let you know if I can help you further.

I am assuming that something went wrong with the update...but that seems a little obvious. I gotta leave work though, I'll check back to see what ya put once I get home and I'll let you know if I can help you further.

well really its like I've said, it goes to the post screen, then on to windows loading bars, then the windows graphics ball appears ... then goes to where it says windows is configuring 3 of 3 updates ( don't turn off computer ) it sits there for about 4 or 5 mins then reboots and repeats its self ....

this is really is starting to get to get my back up now .... I've tried almost every thing, I've booted from the disc and this found no problem so no windows repair was needed. i can't do a system restore as theres no restore point, so I'm now pulling my hair out. has anyone got anymore help to please offer .....

I did a little searching and found something you might want to try. I found it here and it is the last entry.

Once you have booted up with the Vista DVD / Recovery Disc, select Repair Options and select Command Prompt (no admin password needed this way)

Now type in:
C: (or whichever directory your system files are located)
cd windows/winsxs
del pending.xml

The guy states that he will be turning off automatic updates right when he gets back in. This might not be the best idea...but if it keeps happening then I would turn them off as well.

Damn, wished I'd known i wasn't the only one with this problem ... I got so up tight with i just formatted the hard drive and reloaded windows. I didn't lose any personal files as it was a fresh install in the first place. ju
