Hey Bill,

I have the exact problem. I tired the fixes with no luck :{. I actually let it run all night long and finally had to use the task manager to stop it. Sigh

I had the same problem and found the solution by accident. Turn off the computer and disconnect it from the internet. Turn the computer back on and click on windows update and the screen should load up properly. When it shows you the updates to install, connect the computer back to the internet and the updates should install.

sbaker02's solution did not work for me. Also, the link with the 3 solutions took me to a page that said I did not have permission to access it (perhaps because I just joined the forum and confirmed registration today?), so I was unable to see what the 3 fixes that failed for everyone else were. (Not worried about that--sounds like all these folks had same problem, so don't expect the fixes that failed for them to work for me.) Any other suggestions? I usually can't even get the blank box to go away through task manager; I usually have to restart the computer. (Aggravating!!!)
