I am running a laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 bit and this morning everything was totally locked up except for the mouse pointer. It was moving around until I attempted to click on something and then I was totally locked up. I had to do a hard shutdown and then I restarted, but had the same problem. I restarted again in safe mode without a hitch and through a long process of elimination found that the Windows search feature was causing the problem. It is now disabled and my computer appears to be okay.
What would cause that and what should my next remedy/diagnostic/preventative steps be?
Thanks,
Chris
