Windows Search Problem

Ok - I've had the Windows Search problem where the service would not enable because the gathrprm.txt and schema.txt files were missing. I no longer have the message saying the index is not turned on - but I KNOW it's still not working. I've followed all the steps in this thread:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/85803-index-windows-search-service.html

To no avail. My event logs now contain (literally) hundreds of errors like this one:

There's also equivalent ones referring to Gathrprm.Txt. Anyone have any hints on what's going on? If relevant, I've moved my Users folder to another partition. Other than that, it's almost a completely fresh install of Vista Ultimate 32bit SP1 (slipstreamed).

Ok, I appear to have worked around the issue by installing the new Windows Search 4.0 Preview. Not really a solution, but it will do for now.

I've got no end of problems here - I reckon I'm spending more time fixing issues in Vista than using it! :(

Well, the file in the error above shows it is supposed ot be located in C:\ProgramData....did you move that too?

Negative - just moved the Users folder. I tried the fixes listed to replace those files with the originals and that's the error(s) I get. Looks like the catalog doesn't match the Windows version or something - who knows.

Regardless, installing the new preview version seems to have removed those files and I assume put them somewhere else. I haven't bothered really looking into it now; just happy it works again.
