Solved Windows Photo Gallery No Thumbnails

Hi. All thumbnails for pics on windows folders have recently disappeared. I have double checked all folder and performance settings and tried repairing Windows photo gallery, deleting thumbnails cache, restoring pc to previous state, changing file associations etc etc. No joy.

When I open the pictures folder, thumbnails appear briefly and then quickly revert to icons. "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is definitely unchecked.

I have successfully installed another picture browser which works fine when I work through it directly, unfortunately I still need thumbnails on the standard windows folders for selecting & uploading pics online, which is an important part of my business.

Anyone any suggestions? I have already tried all the suggestions for similar problems I have found on the forums but nothing so far has made any difference.

Thanks. Had actually tried all these before apart from editing the registry directly. Have just been through the whole list again and rebooted. Unfortunately still no thumbnails.

Hi. Thumbnails are selected, unfortunately they only show for a moment when the file is opened and then revert to icons.

Hi. Have tried rebuilding cache as per tutorial, but unfortunately no joy.

I've been trying to follow this tut as well http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

This has revealed some corrupted files on vista which may be responsible. However I cannot seem to replace them using my vista disk as this is a recovery one not a retail version. Any suggestions how I should proceed further?

Hi. Have now solved the problem. It was a corrupted dll file in vista. I managed to extract it from my recovery disk and replace it. Thumbnails back straight away!

Hi

I think it was photometadatahandler.dll in system 32. I did replace a couple of other corrupted files as well, but I am sure this was the culprit.
