Windows Mail Logon popup

I've owned my computer for about two years with no major trouble (running Windows Vista Premium Home 64 bit). Yesterday I tried to check my email and the Windows Mail Logon kept popping up and I could not check my email. I've search some of the solutions and did most of the common fixes (turning off email scan with AV software (McAfee), deleting my email account and resetting it up, loaded Windows Live and had the same problem.....asking for password) all to no avail. I even system restored to about two weeks ago when the computer was running well with no results. A bunch of folks are having this problem but most of the posts don't have an ending or solution that works. I pulling my hair out. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Yes I can check my email through Optimum's website but it's a bit inconvenient. Thanks for the reply. Any ideas?

The problem could be at their end. I had similar problems when I was on AOL in that I could only access my emails through the web interface and not the email client. The problem, whatever it was, was corrected after a period of time and I was able to access my emails normally again. Other than making sure my email settings were correct (which they were), I didn't change anything on my system.

If there is a dot "." in your username try replacing it with "_". For example change username "[email protected]" into "[email protected]". I don't know if this is a general solution but it worked in my case.
