Windows Mail Frozen

Hello all - I'm hoping someone can help and please bear with me as this is a little long-winded a problem...

My Windows Mail application is frozen - I cannot access any of the tabs, or any of the folders as there are there are two constant windows active that I can not get rid of.

The first one says it's 'performing offline tasks for the account: imap.gmail.com'

The second is a prompt to login to the gmail account, which I can not do as google have mysteriously disabled my account, which I found out when this problem started!

I have contacted google and am hoping they will reinstate my account and I can login again, but in the meantime, is there any way I can disable the login prompt/s (more come up if I click 'ok' and simply repeat over and over) or stop Windows Mail from performing the offline tasks, which don't seem to be actually getting anwhere (judging by the the green bar not moving in the progress bar)

Please note that I am not able to access any of the Windows Mail tabs - so no clicking on File/Edit/Tools etc. I'm hoping someone might be able to talk me through either any of the above, or restoring Windows Mail (though I'll neeed to back up old emails and contacts if I do this).

I've tried deleting the whole of the imap.gmail folder into the recycle bin but this does not work. I'm at my wit's end! Aaaargh.

Have you tried turning off your computer. If you already used that approach

I would try in two ways. The first is in safe mode. Boot the computer, during boot, repeatedly hit f8, you will get to safe mode and you may be able to perform your tasks

The second is try system restore to a time before the problem.

Either attempt or anything else that you try may result in loss of your mail

Good Luck

Just thought of another way, which may be the best. Use the task manager to end the windows mail process. Just type task manager in search to bring it up. TRY THIS FIRST.

Hi Richc46

Thanks for your reply. I ended up sorting it another way - managed to find the folder for the gmail account and deleted the whole thing - seems to be working fine now (fingers crossed!)

Good for you Emma.

If it does not continue to work properly, you have my suggestions. If it continues to work, you have just helped others, which is the purpose of this Forum. Wish you all the best.
