Windows Mail - cannot Send

About a week ago, my ability to send mail using Windows Mail stopped. I can receive mail fine. I can send/receive mail from/to this same account using a web mail service. Here's the error I get:

Subject 'Test to self', Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '250 OK', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 250, Error Number: 0x800CCC7D

Any help will be most appreciated.

My first thought. Go to the website of your email provider. They probably did one of two things:

They no longer offer POP3 (that is what you use to utilize the email client)

or

For secuity or other reasons they changed the settings. Check on that

A third possibilty is that your email provider is having problems with the server and POP3, is temp. out of service.

You can check all that at the mail website. If the mail provider is your ISP, you can call.

I appreciate those suggestions. I just checked (again) with my ISP provider (Qwest) who confirmed that my settings are correct, their POP3 server is running, and the port is not blocked.

Now what?

Sounds like the mail client is corrupt. Back up all your mail, Uninstall and then install again and then transfer your mail.

Before this attempt, make a system restore point.

Good Luck

OK - I exported all folders/contacts. I did a system checkpoint. I went to uninstall programs but I don't see Windows Mail. Help was not helpful. Do you know how I uninstall mail? Also any trick to reinstalling? I assume I use my Vista CD.

Thanks for your help.

Go to control panel, then go to programs. It is probably listed as windows live essentials. You can uninstall from there. Live essentials however has other programs such as messenger and a few others. I will get you the information how to reinstall LIve mail.

Anything in essentials can be reinstalled.

You may want to make a system restore point first

Nope - nothing like Live Essentials in the installed program list. Can I just install over it from that web link you gave me?

I found another post that suggested I turn off scanning of outbound mail in my virus checker.

I can now send mail!

Thanks for your help anyway.
