Windows Key + L will not lock computer.

First post here. It seems that when I go to use the shortcut "Windows Key + L" to lock my computer all it does is enter the "L" key in my search field.

I searched google and through the forums here but I can't seem to find a solution. I tried adding the key to my registry per the tutorial (http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/120503-lock-computer-enable-disable.html) but it doesn't do anything. Thanks!

Hello Joe, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If you open the Start Menu, and click on the arrow next to the power button to expand it, do you have Lock as an available option?

Does the Lock Computer shortcut below work for you?

When you press either of the Windows key on its own, does it bring up the Start Menu or not? Some keyboard drivers allow you to disable either or both of these keys. For example, mine allows me to.

I am able to lock my computer via the created desktop shortcut or through the start menu by clicking either the lock button or through the arrow menu as you suggested brink. Also, yes my windows key works, both of them do in fact. When I hit my windows key the search bar already has the cursor for typing in it. I can lock it any other way, just not with that shortcut.

It may be a matter of timing by how fast you press the Windows key and the L key at the same time. If your a bit slow to press the L key, then it could give you what you are seeing. You might test to see if that may be it.

Good call brink. I got it to work but it seems that the keystokes need to be nanoseconds apart (literally). Anyone know how to change the time needed for it to use the shortcut?

That's good news. I know you can adjust key repeat rate and delay in the Keyboard settings from the Control Panel, but I'm not sure that normal keystroke timing is able to be adjusted.
