Hello All
I have a problen trying to open Windows defender, i wrong disabled my start up programs and want to get some of them back, i was told to open Windows defender as for some reason it was off, when i tried nothing happened.

Maybe someone can help, I disabled the start up program as it said some were blocking the start up, i can find where my live Messenger is either?

Hello, have you downloaded windows security essentials? If so, Defender is contained within and not accessible. Or, can you go back into the start up section and reverse what you have done? The last option is to do a system restore, but wait on others here to respond before trying this, thanks Alan

If you mean Microsoft Security Essentials, then it deactivated Windows Defender when it was installed to avoid a conflict and that's why you can't get to Windows Defender.

What version of Vista do you have (e.g., 32-bit Vista Business, SP2)? The options we can use depend on the version you have.

If you want top notch protection, Allan, you may want to consider Security Essentials, Malwarebytes and the Windows Firewall. That is what I use as do many members. They are easy to use, do not use valued resources and do not cause problems with conflicts which can cause problems like BSOD (which you do not want). If you have any questions just post.
