Windows Cannot Acces File or ....

The classic message. I cannot access the specified file and I am the admninistrator (in fact the only one who use this laptop). I get this error whenever I open a .pdf file (the error reffers to AdobeARM), when I try to install - for example Windows C++ Express (the error reffers to C:\User\Adi\AppData\Local\Temp\SIT16796.tmp\setup.exe), when I use Keylogger (a surveillance program) and almost anytime i get this error for over 2 months!!

I have AVG Free latest edition and it don't find any trojans/virus now. It had found something bad in the registry i think and it deleted - i guess this is the problem.

What can I do?

I need to know the EXACT and COMPLETE error message - word-for-word including any codes. If you get different messages, I need to see the same for each of the messages. There are many things that can cause this problem and the error message should help.

Next, please go to Start / Control Panel / Admiistrative Options / Event Viewer and check for these error messages in the System or the Application Section. If necessary, do some things to cause the errors before you check so the errors will be at the top of of the listing and easier to find. Double-Click on each error message and then click on the details tab and copy what's there and post it here in your next reply. These details will help.

Then let's check some of your system files:

Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories / Command prompt and right click on command prompt and click run as Administrator.

Type sfc /scannow and enter and let it run. It will scan and try to fix some of your system files. Hopefully it will complete with no corruption it could not repair (if there is such corruption post back here or try to analyze it to find the problem file(s) using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228. Try to attach the report (you may need to copy it to your desktop before it will permit you to attach it) here so we can see if they can be repaired with good copies from the installation disk (unless there are too many).

While in Command Prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run. It will want to schedule itself to run at the next restart. Answer yes and then reboot to run the program. It will scan and try to fix any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and mostly remove that as a potential cause.

You may be infected with malware. Try to run anti-malware programs (in safe mode with networking if necessary). To fix this problem (if it is a problem) download, install, update, and run the following two programs: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php and http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html. You may also want to try the new, free Microsoft Security Essentials http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Microsoft-Security-Essentials-Download-131683.html (with the caveat that only ONE AV program can be installed and running on your system at any one time). Use removal tools when appropriate http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2009/05/05/comprehensive-list-of-uninstallers-or-removal-tools-for-antivirus-software/. You may also want to try the free Avira at: http://www.free-av.com/ and Avast at: http://www.avast.com/index. Reboot after completing all the scans. You may also want to try the free OneCare at http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm and let it run all the options (except the registry cleaner) because that’s good maintenance (it will take some time to complete but can be done in the background).

If that doesn't work, try a clean boot http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135. If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit causing the problem. Follow the procedures in the article. Once found, delete, remove, deactivate, or uninstall it. Once done be sure to reset Vista back to normal status as explained in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to normal status and reboot - this solution is not going to work.

Boot into Safe mode with networking and see if the problem occurs there. Either result helps us narrow down the search for the cause.

If the problem persists, create another Administrator user account, reboot, login to the new account, and see if you have the same problems there. Let us know either way.

Let's see what all that does and/or tells us. I await your feedback, results, attached files, answers, and anything else you can add to help us find the problem.

This ended with the following message:

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Now I am trying to see the events in the Event Viewer. I will post them in a couple of minutes

The view you posted is too top level - they will be too hard to find there - we need to get deeper. Also remember to do some things first (before opening Event Viewer) which cause these errors (like opening a PDF file and other things you mentioned) so the errors will be recent and easier to locate.

On the left in Event Viewer, click on System under Windows Logs. Then on the right sort by any in the
last 24 hours and check any that say Error or Warning or Critical and relate to any of the problems you described. If you find none, click on the left click on Applications under Windows Logs and do the same. The errors MUST be there somewhere - it's impossible to have these types of errors and not have a record of them in Event Viewer.

I hope this helps. Keep at it and there are still other procedures that you haven't mentioned which still need to be done. Post back if you have further problems.

Depending on what you ticked when you began the checkdsk, the time may not be out of line.
If you ticked recover bad sectors, it will take time.

Ok. I did the checkdisk. I wrote down on a paper a lot from there, but i guess it said it was clean or something like that. Now I;ll go back to the event viewer
