Window Defender Update Question

Yeah, I am going to switch my protection package soon to the recommended one later. However I was wondering, the only update I had today was a window definition update but oddly enough it ended up taking 4-5 gb of memory. I don't really mind much due to my system still having 195 gb worth of memory left. But I do find it odd that a update in definition can take up 4-5 gb of memory. Is that normal?

You are getting things a bit mixed up I think.
It is not possible to have that much memory.
What you are quoting is the Hard Drive Storage.
Memory is RAM. If you go to Control Panel, System it will tell you how much RAM your system has.

When was the last time you Updated Defender? Of it was a long time ago then it may be 4-5 gb If not then there may be a Culprit behind this case.

Hope This Helps,
Josh

Well everything starts to happen after I updated to Vista Service pack two. I scanned for Spyware, Trojan, Malware, and Virus but non of that came up with anything suspicious.

I've notice a window defender update under the update history on the 22 of July but it's not listed under the installed updates.

However here is the last update under that list. It's all the ones under the 16th of July.
