WIN Mail and Attachments - My Fix

I have found that when I could no longer open attachments with WIN mail because it couldn't find the file....yet detaching the file, saving to the desktop you could then open it.

Many blame it on IE8 and talk about uninstalling IE8 and all the work involved.

If you have that problem do a properties on the icon for Win Mail and you may find that you no longer have "%userprofile%" in the START IN field. What I did to fix the problem was to delete the icon on my system tray and copy a new on from the START/ALL Programs/Windows Mail back down to the task bar. IT now has the Start IN prefilled with "%userprofile%". Went to the offending mail message with the PDF I had trouble with and volia it works !!!!

Give it a try and maybe save your self hours of messing around with uninstalling software......

@tonymazz Hey, cool, that did fix my problem. I had suspected that it did originate with installing IE8, as the problem started after that. Now it works again... The interesting thing is that, having done that once (used a shortcut directly from the .exe to start WinMail), now the original (no %userprofile%) also works... So it reset something? Anyway, thanks... --ch
