will not connect to the internet

i have a dell inspiron desktop. it will not connect to the internet though it shows that i have a connection. my son has a laptop and he can get on the internet. i can also connect to the internet with my iPhone and iPad. when i open up IE and firefox the page is blank. i can type in google in the search bat in the corner and google comes up. i can do a search in google and as soon as i click a link it says that i am not connected anymore. i can also click any of the bookmarks on the toolbar and they sometimes work.

I suggest that you scan for viruses and spyware. Also what firewall do you use? Do you have more than one? Have you tried turning any firewalls off?

i have one firewall, it is on. have tried turning it off and that does not work. i can't scan for viruses cause for some reason my virus scanner is logged out and it won't let me log back in because i have no internet connection

What do you mean that it is logged out? What do you use? Have you tried safe mode with networking?

Try this.
1. Plug your internet cable.
2. Check your windows update
3. Go to the optional
4. Look for your wireless upgrade.

Let's say i have wifiV1 currently there should be an upgrade wifiV2 in the optional and then update it after that restart if you are done tell me.
