Why use themes?

I saw a post here asking about where to find themes for VISTA. When I went to the suggested site, I saw what looks to me like different desktop background pictures and different window colors. I can do all that without added software. Please explain what a theme is good for.

If you want custom themes you'll most likely need to patch a dll. Bad idea. Vista doesn't need extra themes anyway. If you want to save your wallpaper etc as TeaMan FL said open up the display control panel and then themes. Then click save.

Anyway, I use a theme because I prefer a minimalist vista interface, and better looking transparency in my windows.

I use ClearScreen Sharp by K-Johnson with the max transparency setting and 24px taskbar.

RE : Why use themes?

Theme is good for all in-built functionality and with is decent graphics and color including all font, desktop, icon, background. So, we don't want to do other things.

For those of us who want to choose our own theme components (and know how to do so), the problem with pre-programmed "themes" is that each of the components in the theme is some programmer's arbitrary idea of what that element should look or sound like. Obviously, that person's taste will probably not be your taste, so we want to change the components to something we like better. A lot of people don't know how to do all that though, or don't want to take the time to do so, so for them, pre-programmed themes solve the problem.
