Why is it 4:3

I just bought a USB tuner for my media center to record tv and everything is 4:3. I have a widescreen monitor and was wondering how to get it 16:9

Hi Ash1402,

Check the instruction manual for your device. There should be a setting that you can alter to take into account the fact that you have a 16:9 as opposed to a 4:3 monitor. Note that some programs are transmitted in differing aspect ratios and only those that are transmitted in 16:9 will fill your screen. A 4:3 program will have blank areas to the left and right, whereas some films, which are 2.35:1, will have the blank areas above and below the picture. If you reply with the make and model of your USB device, I will endeavour to find out for you. A final question. Does this problem only occur with recordings or with live programs as well?

If I play the program on normal tv it fills the screen. Through the computer it is 4:3 and when it goes back to the tv through the xbox it is 4:3
All recordings are also 4:3 too with pretty big lines down the sides.
The make is Hauppauge WinTV 950Q... it is a USB stick with VHF cable going in.
I am using the vista version of media center and not XP if that helps

Well in Media Center, right click then settings.

Now after going next (twice i think) you have to choose your display

Then to finish:

So, you can choose different settings for different displays.

Is that you needed?
Hope it helps.
