Did you search for the folder not a file?

That or search for the literal file.

i searched for the folder.... Bangkok movie had 2 files within the folder... I believe when you search vista that the item should show up regardless as to whether it is a file or a folder.

True, you would think. If you search for one of the files, does it find it?

Also, if you go into Index Options of Control Panel, have you modified the search index to include your entire C:, and does the index show "Indexing Complete"?

This is one of my pet peeves with Vista, I know XP would probably take longer since it would check on the whole C drive and you couldn't opt for just a folder or fraction of the drive but, with Vista, I have an easier time finding the file I want if I go to Explore and look for it myself than searching for it.

I am going to try what Dzomlija suggested to see if that helps me.

Well, I checked my Indexing and it appeared to be completed. I click on the Modify button, added, the other partition and the backup drive, it took a while indexing everything, tried to search for the file of a game I needed to edit and didn't find a thing.

I had to open up explore and find it myself.

kind:folder bank

To explain:

the "kind:folder" instructs the search engine to limit it's results to matching folders only.

"bank" is the part of the folder name you want to find, and can be anything.

I've also just thought of something too:

1) Have you updated the Vista search to use Windows Search 4.0? See my tutorial for instructions on how to do this.

2) The folder you are searching for ("BANKOK_DANGEROUS") is all uppercase characters. Maybe this is causing it to not show in the results? When creating queries, all uppercase characters are normally used for command codes like AND, OR, NOT.

I do have search 4.0.
I have a comment about the syntax of your "kind:folder bank". I understand that the word bank refers to the actual item you are searching for.. BUT when I read your fine tutorial your syntax is "bank kind:folder"

Which one is correct or does it not make a difference

thank you again
