where can I get free codecs?

My WMP won't play AVI movies, only the Audio, and it won't play m4a files. help plz.

To save the hassle of installing new codecs why not just use a more compatible media Player such as Real Player or VLC? Both run AVIs and m4a files out of the box as well as all unprotected WMAs, WMVs and a multitude of other audio and video formats.

I think this is what you are looking for:

You receive a codec error message, or audio plays but video does not play when you play media files in Windows Media Player 11

If this does not help, I will give you a download link to specific codecs.

Hi,

Do not worry about the Advanced Troubleshooting. Just set codecs to be downloaded automatically and try to play the movie again.

If this does not work:

"While the file is playing, right-click the file in the library, and then click Properties. On the File tab, look at the Audio codec and Video codec sections."

If you send the name of the Audio and Video codec used, I will send you a link.
