Topic title says it all- I currently have Vista Ultimate 32bit on my Inspiron 1720 laptop and I want to try out 64bit, to see if it runs and utilizes the 4gb of memory I have better- Vista 32bit seems to chug a bit when I'm doing heavy photoshop work.

There is no option for 64bit drivers on dell's driver site for this laptop, does anyone have any clue where I could get them? Or am I out of luck?

I'm hoping you have tried the Dell website and also checked for 64 bit compatability especially with your MB and CPU combos

Can you let us know your full spec? I believe that the inspiron 1720 is x64 bit compatible but Dell is notorious for not wanting to support x64.

If you look around and use google you will find all your drivers, use the manufacturers's sites of your hardware to find x64 drivers. Sometimes you have to leech from other notebook manufacturers.

All depends on your spec.

Intel Wireless N internal card
Intel 10/100/1000 wired network
Nvidia 8400M GS video card

Internal bluetooth controller

Those are really the highlights..

Dell does not even have a 64bit option when i go to the drivers site at all..

I went ahead and installed Vista 64 this morning, it used generic drivers for most things, the only thing it didnt load any driver at all for, is the Wireless card, but that is the most important thing since it's a laptop that I travel with constantly.

I can post more detailed info later if you guys need it

Thanks guys, you have been really helpful.. it seems like everything is up and running now, the last thing I need to find is a good mouse/touchpad driver. The last thing that doesnt work is my scroll up/down/left/right on the touchpad..

So far I have to say, Vista 64 Ultimate has taken all of my software with no issues, and it feels much more snappy and responsive than my old Vista Home Premium x32 install
