What windows and Microsoft programs to remove safely???

I am sure most of you are wondering the same thing.....Microsoft keeps on sending programs in the updates.... Im not sure about you, but I think some of them can be removed for space...I just want to know whish ones are safe to remove.......

I got Photo Galleries from Microsoft, and I am sure there other programs that are not needed.. I need only one photo suite for my job, printing, scanning my timecard and sending to the main office.. I work at home as a caregiver to a loved one...

I dont think I need the movie maker, and I am sure if I did I could find a free one that uses less space and memory... what about meeting space and windows mail???? I use hotmail, can that go??? I am just in need of space and I only got little HD as it is, and a good portion is windows stuff...

Please Help me Flush out Junk Programs that are not needed...

OK Take care. To remove programs that are not listed in Programs and Features
Press Windows key and R, Type Regedit,
Go to HKLM,Software,Microsoft,Windows,Current Version,Uninstall.
Look for the key,right click and delete.
Warning:Make a backup and restore point first.

This is what I would do. I would go to msconfig, startup programs. You will see a bunch of programs that are activated at startup. Untick one at a time. Use the computer for a while. If you do not miss it uninstall.
If you do untick it and it is not needed and you have a large hard drive, you can actually leave it like that as it is no longer being used, it just takes up space and not memory or cpu. If you need it and want it back, just tick it again.
For programs that are not in startup, go to Control Panel, like Ilikefree suggested.

I just checked my Msconfig startup and there are one or two programs that should not be unticked, one was Catalyst Control Center. Allow me to amend my instructions, just slightly. Any name (will not be many) that you do not recognize or know the purpose, you should Google first or ask here.

K thanks for the tip....I am backing up files, hope i got room for it all....
I got like 20gig total room left on my drives...
Im going to put the small programs in my downloads on my 1gig stick and I have a 1 gigmicroSDCARD with adapter I can use if needed....I looked at my system and was thinking, I dont use alot of this stuff. I was pondering what can go...Hoping my computer will load slightly....My Rig is in the Rig Thread....Nothing Fancy...

I got a pic of my printer somewhere......My Perfermance score is higher than Brink Hes got 2.5 and I got 3.0...We both got slightly modified machines.

What is your Rig Like?

ok is there a way to send you a list of my msconfig entries??? If so can you help me select the the ones that definatley be unticked in microsoft????? I am sure there are heaps to uncheck.......Do you Have a scanner????
I do, I need it for my job every week to get paid.... I found when I was reading the instructions for my new adapter, I had to scan it first so I could zoom it. My Eyes are really bad... I cant see very well at all.. I cope though..

Right now im listening to Def Leppard Hysteria album...Pour Some Sugar on me....

I use KMPLAYER, It is much better and lighter than WMP...loads quicker. Volume control is easier, I use mouse wheel, and screen size is customable..It is a free program

I've recently done exactly what your doing, I had 26 startup programs (I'd never looked at msconfig before) I now only have 3! Best thing to do is what rich says, google them and decide whether you need them or not

I disabled like abouot heaps and probably haf of the entries are obselete, how to I refresh the list????

How do I do a screen shot, is it multiple shots with the snippet tool or another program to access the menu?? I had a program once that looked at startup menus etc, let me google it real quick

I just found a msconfig cleanuo tool to clear obsolete entries

msconfigcleanup.exe

it only takes out the old deleted file entries

I hope this site might help you and others..Lets hope it doenst get deleted
