Solved What will open .rar files?

Hi all!

Can someone PLEASE tell me, what can I use to open a .rar file?

I have looked, but a few friends told me that just installing some of the programmes to open the .rar files gave them viruses!

Can you please recommend a SAFE one?

7-zip and UltimateZip can both unrar. UltimateZip has an unrar with shell extension if your system is 32 bit. It's shareware, but there's no nag screen on the shell extension part. I used it to unrar downloads for years until I tried 7-zip. 7-zip is open source and free. Both work well for unrar but 7-zip has a native 64 bit version available.
