This isn't really a big problem, but it kind of annoys me and I want to fix it.

Start bar color on desktop:

Start bar color when a window is maximized:

Start button is highlighted when I minimize something?

Can anyone help me?

Hi, ALil'Hope, and welcome to the Vista forums.

The color changing is because you have Aero and glass effects turned on, and have your transparency enabled - it is not changing color so much as letting the color behind it bleed through the taskbar.

Pretty, isn't it!

Right click on the desktop and select Personalize, then select Window Color and Appearance - at the bottom you'll see a slider bar for the transparency. Disable that and the color will stay consistent (or, more to the point, will stop bleeding other colors through).

As for the Start button highlighting, I am not sure what is causing that - perhaps your Windows key might be stuck, or else you have some strange setting in your mouse / keyboard settings?

How do you normally minimize windows?

I don't have any keys stuck and I just click the minimize button normally.

Hello ALil'Hope,

The Start button will light up like that by default when:

1. The mouse point is over it.

or

2. All opened windows are minimized. It will not light up if one of them is still opened on the desktop.

I don't know why but it doesn't do any of the things I posted on my other PC. Same Vista edition and everything.
