Wake up on RTC Alarm

Hi,

Completely random question to do with motherboards - I'm thinking of using my PC as a giant alarm clock (yes, I have crazy ideas ). There's an option in my BIOS to enable "Allow wake up on RTC alarm" which means when a certain time is reached, the PC *should* power up, providing it's plugged in etc etc.

Anyways, I've enabled wake on RTC alarm, turned on ACPI support, and moved a jumper across to enable "power on by keyboard or usb device" (in case this applies also to RTC alarm?), however my PC will still not boot of its own accord!!

Any ideas?

(The motherboard is an ASUS P5K SE/EPU by the way)

RTC=Real Time Clock. You would have to "set" a time for the "alarm" (when you want it to boot) This has nothing to do with power on by keyboard or usb device.

Power On By RTC Alarm [Disabled]
Allows you to enable or disable RTC to generate a wake event. When this item is
set to Enabled, the items RTC Alarm Date/ RTC Alarm Hour/ RTC Alarm Minute/
RTC Alarm Second will become user-configurable with set values.
Configuration options: [Disabled] [Enabled]

What I used to do with my old XP box was to start Windows Media Player, and begin playing a preset playlist. I then hibernated the computer. When the RTC alarm is then set, it turned the computer on and Windows resumed from Hibernation and Media Player continued playing.

This does not work very well with Vista, as Media Player is stopped prior to hibernating. What you can do then is set Vista to automatically logon, and have a startup program of some kind that actually plays the alarm sound/music file.

@ Jim R:
I probably should have stated this, but I have already set that to enabled and chosen date: every day, hour: 11, minute: 00, second: 00, so it should work really. I started enabling things like ACPI when it didn't work in the hope that I'd overlooked something but it still doesn't work

@ Dzomlija:
Yeah, I've written a program which runs at startup on my pc, and if it opens between the alarm "on" and "off" times, it'll play a playlist to wake me up. If it opens outside of the alarm time, it assumes I've turned the PC on myself and doesn't play the alarm music. Also, if the alarm goes on for 30 minutes or more, it shuts the computer down again automatically in case I'm not at home or whatever. So the alarm works perfectly! Apart from it booting up which is kinda the main part really xD
