I am trying to Network a Vista Home Premium machine and an XP Home Edition computer for my mother and father in law. On the vista machine if I click on network the icon is there for the vista machine and for the media device. On the xp machine if I click on view workgroup computers, the only thing there is the xp machine.
Under network sharing and discovery on the vista machine everything is on except password protected sharing.
Both machines have no problem getting onto the internet. The router is a linksys model WRT54G WIRELESS ROUTER. The XP machine is running ESET Smart Security and the Vista is Running Norton 360.
I have a network at Home with a Vista Laptop, An XP Laptop, and an XP Desktop that works without any problems. All the computers can see each other.
I did disable the Firewall on the XP machine and the Vista Machine was there when I clicked on View Network Computers. However after I clicked on the icon for the vista machine in view workgroup computers, I received a message that the Vista machine was not accessable and then the icon disappeared. I have not been able to get it back.
