Hi there, I have Vista x64 OEM on my pc since November 2007. My system has four 500GB hard disks, with C:\ containing nothing but windows. I'm wondering if I shrink C:\ partition size to say 100GB for windows, will I need to reactive Vista? Or will I have to buy a new one? Nothing else in the system is changed. (incidentally, might be upgrading graphics card soon, will that too cause a reactivation?)

Hi Parjay,

If you mean using Disk Management to shrink your Vista partition from the right - you should have no problem with booting, and will not need to reactivate.

Changing the graphics card will not cause any problem with your current activation.

Hope it helps

Hey, thanks alot. Yeh I'm going to use the Disk Management to shrink the Vista volume (it says I can shrink by 238404). Wasn't sure about the activation thing as I read something about vista creating a hash on the hard disk and needs reactivating if you replace your HD - not sure on if that went fro shrinking the volume.

Hi,

You will be fine.

Vista does a hardware check to see it's on the same machine - that includes the Disk Signature - that won't be a problem with repartitioning.

She lets you change a lot of things - Hard drive, Ram, Graphics card, without any problem.

If you change the motherboard , Vista will assume it is a different machine.
