I've been scouring the net for the past two days looking for various solutions and none seem to have really helped.
First off, my setup, which I just put together a few days ago:
MSI P45NEO3 FR Intel p45 Mobo express chipset based
Intel Core 2 Quad 8200 @ 2.33ghz
4gigs of DDR2 1066mhz ram
Using Onboard Soundblaster Audigy SE (I have an older Sound Blaster Audigy ZS 2 gamer, but was running kind of funky, so I took it out)
Xfx Geforce 9800 GT 512mb DDR3 video card
Case (if it matters) Raidmax X-Force w/side 230mm fan
Thermaltake Purepower 600w PSU
Seagate Barracuda ST3500320AS 500gb Sata2/300 7200rpm 32mb HD
D-Link Wireless G Desktop Adapter WDA-1320
old Liteon DVD drive from my old desktop
Okay now for my common, yet hard to solve, problem.
I can connect to the internet fine, with firefox or IE, I can download at 400k+/sec , I've done speedtests and get quite fine download/upload speeds. But whenever I try to play games like CoD4 multiplayer, or Age of Conan, or even activate Two Worlds over the internet, I get one of two things:
My wireless disconnects, I usually alt tab to find it with the infamous red x on it and that it's disconnected.
On Age of Conan I fiddled with settings, called Microsoft (removed some KB files) and I got it to connect only to experience 4800-6000+/ms lag/latency. Which is obviously quite unacceptable to play any online game.
I CAN connect to ventrilo (I've heard some people can't with vista x64), as I'm explaining/asking a friend about this. I've seen other people on, for example, the Age of Conan forum that run Vista x64 and can run AoC fine.
I've got vista x64 drivers for everything, tried multiple different ones for my wirelss adapter. Tried the autotuning disable, tried the WLAN autoconfig disable from this site:
[H]ard|Forum - View Single Post - Vista + Wireless + 60 sec lag spikes = SOLVED
I've tried turning off the QOS Packet Scheduler, the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, IPv6, the two Linklayer settings, and nothing works still.
Tried WLAN optimizer and Vista anti-lag programs, to no avail.
Called Microsoft and was on with them for an hour with their tech support and they had no clue. Yet from searching the internet, obviously there's some kind of problem.
I really just have no idea, and I'm about to almost give up and go for XP SP3 if this doesn't work. Which sucks, because as bad as I've heard Vista to be, I don't actually mind it, even if that sounds bad to most people. I just want it to work =\.
