Vista x64 1.5 min pause during boot

I'm wondering why Vista x64 takes sooooo loooong to boot, compare to my older 32bit system. My system is new and clean, and when I check all the logs, there are no error messages. But what I do find is this - a minute and a half gap where nothing seems to be happening (the below is from my system log):
  • Information 7/5/2008 8:06:38 AM SRTSP Symantec Antivirus minfilter successfully loaded
  • Information 7/5/2008 8:07:52 AM DistributedCOM DCOM started the service fdPHost with arguments "" in order to run the server
So, does anyone have any idea why Windows is twiddling its thumbs for almost a minute and a half? Is there so other report or log I should be looking at?

John,
Thanks for suggesting I check NAV settings. Actually, the config was set incorrectly. Now the time between the two above statement is acceptable. But the boot still hangs: now the gap is between "Resouce Publication" and "The Plug and Play service entered the running state" - about a minute between these two events. This is soooo freaking wierd.

I use to have that same problem using 64bit vista, turned out one of my drivers was holding it up. It stopped doing it once I got all the correct drivers.

thezepol: yeah I hear ya ;) Thing is, Windows isn't giving me a clue as to which driver(s) that may be. Another wierd thing: a warm reboot is alsways faster than a cold one.

Well, I've got it figured out. :sarc:

When I purchased my new HP box (Amazon.com: HP Pavilion Elite M9150F Desktop PC (Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 720 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium): Computers & PC Hardware) an All-in-one printer/scanner was included in the deal. I wasn't gonna use it, since I have HP's top Photosmart printer, but I could use the scanner. So, I hooked it up, and boy is it CRAP. Worst software ever - invasive and broken! HP support for this item was bottom feeder horrible. Don't "Bob" and "Judy" from India have any shame regarding their unmitigated incompetence? Anyway once I deleted all this crap from my box, boot times are now smooth and quick.

HP makes decent laptops, PCs and laser printers. The All-In-One concept is poorly implemented - you have been warned.
