hi there,

when I put vista on sleep, it goes dark, then restarts without sleeping. did not start doing this until yesterday, no probs with it before. I have not changed anything or added anything previous to this non-sleep issue. suggestions?

btw took cds out of the drives and that changed nothing, nor did it cause the prob before.

thanks,

Msongs

it might be restarting due to an error

right click my computer and select properties , select the advanced tab then settings under startup and recovery , uncheck automatically restart under system failiure then click OK etc.

now after trying to go into hibernation your PC may lockup or bluescreen and you may need to do a hard reset but you will know that an error is causing your problem and you can come back and we can help troubleshoot it from there

hi rive0108 n archie123,

went via properties and "automatically restart under system error" was NOT checked. only write an event was checked. as I said I have changed/added nothing in the previous days

system event log shows nothing except "information" icons and that system has entered sleep and immediately following that, "information" shows normal restart stuff like internet connection activated etc

the turn off options indicated by the ----> show shut down, sleep, restart. when I click sleep it restarts and when i click restart it..restarts. wierd.

have noticed something else now tho...

windows makes a little noise when a device is removed, kind of a da dum. sometimes the dum part is higher and sometimes its lower. recognize what I mean?

well now when it restarts right away instead of sleeping it makes one or both of those sounds.

I recognize that sound from when a device is installed like my card reader that is a usb plug in device. I used that yesterday. however I have used it many times before without any change in sleep function.

anyhow just a clue.

but that da dum (up) and da dum (down) sound both occur when I do sleep that restarts.
