VISTA will not play WOW...

My video and audio is choppy, i havent had a good frame rate while in the game on Vista. My pc specs are

AMD Athlon X2 3800+ Dual Core (2 GHz)
2 Gigs OCZ 667 PC5400 (4-4-4-12)
1 Gig unknown 667 (Dont know timing)
Nvidia 6150LE (Integrated....I know)
160 gig 7200 RPM HD

Wow requires hardware slightly more advanced than a graphing calculator to run, how am i not able to play with a system like this.

The only thing i can think of is that maybe the different types of RAM are causing problems, maybe the timings are off or something. This is exactly double the spec of my XP machine and on that machine WoW flies.

I dont get it. While not in the game the PC is lightning fast.

Anyone have similar issues with WoW in Vista, if so how'd you fix it?

It's your nVidia chipset drivers. Make sure to use Microsoft's IDE/SATA drivers (for now) and make sure when you update to check under optional compnents for the nForce NIC driver.

There's still something wrong with the hard disk controller driver (that causes strange reset-like noises to periodically eminate from the drive) but my system is much more stable than it was using nVidia's lastest (nForce v15.0) drivers.

At least he's only wasting his time. You've wasted everyone's time with that useless post.

P.S. to OP: some people are actually considering a class-action lawsuit against nVidia over all this.

A lot of WoW players were reporting this issue and experiencing the same thing as you. Fortunately, ati and nvidia for both their perspective video cards put out updated drivers. The latest drivers run fairly smoothly.

However, I have a personal recommendation for you. I would try turning off Aero during gameplay manually and manually re-enabling it afterwards.

To do so, right click on your desktop and choose 'Personalize'. Choose the top option from the menu that will popup. Choose the link near the bottom that says 'Open the classic control panel' or words to that affect. Select your Theme as 'Windows Vista Theme' and not 'Windows Aero Theme'.

Some people commended this has fairly greatly improved their gameplay performance as Aero can use 64mb of ram depending on screen resolution. On a 128 mb video card, that's half. I think your card is a 128mb card? I could be wrong though as I usually shop ATI =)

Windows Aero usually should disable itself automatically but I'd recommend manually disabling it, restarting and then starting wow just to be 'safe' and see if your performance kicks up a few notices.

That or you may need to upgrade/revert to Windows XP as Windows Vista's os has a lot more overhead than Windows XP thus requiring better hardware to get same performance on XP.

Unbelievable! I play WoW:TBC 2.1 and framerates are 10-11 fps before the patch I got 8-10 fps...(And with DX10 i got better performance on vista then XP)and you have a nVIDIA(very good even if its a IGP) and I think it are the drivers,DWM...
maybe you need to download ALL drivers from your pc and reinstall them, defrag, disable DWM
IGP:SiS661FX 64MB 200MHZ
Tip: Disable DWM in services.msc if you dont use it(or right click WoW,properties, compatibilty,Disable Desktop composition/also disables aero)

Wow, vista should not be run for at least one more year, it is brand spankin new and is bound to have many problems, (which it does)!. XP works great, OSX Works better. So smarten up and quit being owned my M.S.! (M.S. = Maney Slaves)

Isn't this a forum primarily intended for people who use 64-bit Vista as a place to share user experience and news about the OS? Seems like I'm reading a lot of anti-MS bigotry.

We know XP runs better. We know OS X is superior. We know Linux is free. Let's talk about using Vistax64! I'm thinking most people who frequent an OS forum understand the trials inherent with using a bleeding edge OS. That's why we're here, right? Sheesh! :)

My son runs WoW on a laptop (Vistax86) with an nVIDIA 7600 Go video card and the rest of its specs less than yours, and it runs like a champ. I would suspect the issue Crito is citing.

My Computer

I'm running a Q6600 on an nVidia 650i motherboard with an ATI 2400 Pro (craptastic for heavy gaming, great for HD video display/conversion/compiling).

Wow runs a teensy bit choppy unless I turn off AA/AS @ 1280x1024... on a Radeon 2400. As far as I can tell, it doesn't utilize much cpu at all.

Have you done anything to try to up your FPS? Defragging (wow uses lots of HD), moving the swap file to a different HD, drop your AA/AS... stuff like that.

Re: VISTA will not play WOW... (Depends on the Flavor of Vista)

It depends on the "Flavor" of Vista you are trying to use.
Be aware the the Home Basic flavor is crippleware, if you are a gamer.

For instance, Vista Home Basic will give you tons of problems, including garbled audio. All four flavors of Vista Home are contained on the Retail DVD (even on the Upgrade version.)

Simply reinstall, tell it you will enter the Validation Key later, and when it asks which version you have, just check the box for Vista Home Premium.

Keep in mind that Home Premium needs your card to be in the GeForce-6 class, with 128-Mb video RAM, minimum.

Suddenly the integrated card errors should disappear.
You might be able to extend your "grace period" before Validation. (http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=224) :geek:

The reason you would extend that grace period is to spend time saving to purchase an upgrade license-key from MicroSoft.*

Vista should become another GREAT operating-system upon release of Service Pack 2 (noting SP1 should release in 2008.)

This is normal for MicroSoft. Windows was wretched until version 3.11, Win95 until SP2, Win98 until SE (Second Edition), XP until SP2...
Why should Vista be any different?

WoW seems to load more quickly on my Vista 64 setup but I've definitely lost FPS. I used to get around 75 FPS indoors and in Shattrath around 35-40 FPS outdoors. I'm now getting around 27-28 FPS in Shat (didn't notice indoors).

When I went to Vista I went from 2 to 4G of RAM and went from a single GT7950 to a pair in SLI. I should have better framerates but anything more than 25 is quite playable.

Thats odd, Every pc in my home (5 of them) are running various versions of vista. All of them have Nvidia cards and none of them have any problems. My personal PC runs WOW at 1920x1200 with maxxed out options & AA at 100+FPS in instances and 40-60 in heavily populated cities.

My Computer

World of Warcraft works great for me under Vista 64 Home Basic. 1680x1050 and usually 50-60 fps. Everything Hi/Max quality except for view distance (set about 1/2).

2.33 Core 2 Duo, ATI 1600, 2GB (Macbook Pro - I get the same framerates under OSX fwiw)

My Computer

I had choppy graphics in WoW as well, fps was fine 60fps but still choppy when moving, made it unplayable, 8800 640mb GTS / Core 2 Duo / 4 gb ram. Once I enabled Smooth Mouse, the choppyness went away. Sound has not been a problem, I'm using an Auzentech Xplosion 5.1 sound card. Using Vista x64 Ultimate

Oh btw, I'm not disabling Aero, or running it in compatibility mode or anything like that, not even running it as administrator

When WOW works I have 60- 62 FPC. But I cant play now, my network is ****ing.
I can play for 2-3 hour day....

I have a new computer with Vista 64 Ultimate. I have Only Wireless network connection.

And my problem is disconnect after 30 sec or so...
The network works just fine with all other pograms, but when I connect to WOW it stays connected for 30 sec or so. And when I close WOW I can't connect to internet with the web browser. I have to reset the Wireless network to enter the web, then it works just fine until I try to connect to WOW, then the same problem appears again.

Well I just found out why my WoW was playing like crap only getting 10FPS. I'm using drivers 174.74 from Guru3D, and was like man this is not going good at all. In XP it's fine, but I play with the windowed mode so i can easily get to winamp, msn and google. I was playing the same way as i did in XP and the FPS was so low, I tried the steps everyone did above. Still nothing, so I took off the windowed mode in video settings and bang it was max FPS I get with my 22" LG, 1680x1050 @60Hz with Vert.Sync on. I have Aero on and sidebar on (which I shut off most of the time in games) and it plays fine.

I happy it works now and I'm glad google brought me to this site. I feel welcome already.

Hi, may i sugest direct X install, the v.9.X.X. with the November updates, to reenforce suport for graphical issues and game play even after all that graphic drivers being in place.
COD2, COD4, etc, toke benefit from this operation for me and my laptop specs are lower than yours. Why couldn´t WOW work?
2 gigs memory, 200 gigs HDD, Intel Core Duo 2 CPU T5500, 1.66 Ghz´s. Vista H.Premium X86 and a nvidia ge force go 7300.
No Aero stuff, all classic style, the use of TuneUP Utilities 2008 program for more tweaking makes this a blast for game playing. No screensaver active or desktop pictures at all, simple black, some administrative service tools deactivated, and no background program working, thus sistem memory sparks good. A small detail, i use also a memory phone card giving 400 MB ready system boost, making a tiny touch of perfomance.

Cheers!
