Hi folks. I need some serious help before i take my laptop to the shop. Its a toshiba satellit A205-S5809. I started it up yesterday and it froze up with something down in the bottom right (colors) i cant remember now. It wouldnt do anything so i turned it off and back on and the windows bars just keeps going back and forth. Nothing.

Safe mode does not seem to work either. It starts and stops. And nothing. The only cd i have is a reinstall cd from a dell.

Can anyone help me PLEASE...

If your computer is set to boot from the CD and it does not load, your problem is hardware and you must bring it into the shop.

I changed the order, popped the vista cd in and it is now sitting at expanding files (0%) for about 10 min. now. Is this normal? Btw. I tried to click on the middle icon as you asked and I cant.

My Computer

Expanding files got to about 28% and then i got an error " windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8007045D

Thats about the expected life of a hard drive. If you were able to boot we could test it for you.

Hmmm. So what you are saying is... What i did tested the HD and it failed?
Would you suggest a new HD or new laptop. I.e. laptops are easily purchased for around $300 and i cant remember if this is the first or second HD?

My Computer

I am saying that I think that you have Hard Drive problems. I also said that I dont know if you can test it due to your booting problem. If you can test it here is the test

Test Hard Drive

Hard drive scan usings SeaTools - SeaToolsfor Windows | Seagate - Both long and shorttests

I am not suggesting that you buy a new computer. I am merely giving the facts as I see them, you must do what you think is best.
