Vista welcome window forever loading etc

Ok.well my ASUS laptop with Vista home premium is having some trouble.. first notice windows freezes ... next vista welcome window stays on loading.......... till I turn it off and restart in safe mode with network... Then the unthinkable ... all my pictures, all my documents, all the restore points, ALL anything that I added to this hard drive for the last 4yrs.... IS GONE!!! and now nothing is saved after I reboot.( ok Im in safe mode) I have reloaded the service pack 2... found out some drivers can not update. I looked at the event manager ... OMG that list is too long. I remember sometime last year their was an Microsoft update that wiped everything off like it was a new laptop...But I had a restore points to go back to fix that one. 2 days ago my laptop appeared to be ok. Turned it off that night and in the morning all was gone. But I am hoping the light is still on at the end of the tunnel for this hard drive.

Hi.

It sounds a bit like a mix of bad hardware and a virus.

Start up again in safe mode, then open the command prompt.

Enter

sfc /scannow

This will scan your computer for any hard drive issues and attempt to repair them.

If this doesn't work, we'll try to save your files next.

Do you have a blank CD or a USB flash drive? we'll install Ubuntu, another operating system, and make a backup of your computer.

Ok command prompt to sfc / VERIFYFILE=c:\windows\systems32\kerne132.dll
It's reply --- Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation

It also said to --- sfc /SCANFILE=d:\windows\systems32\kerne132.dll /OFFBOOTDIR=d:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\windows
It's reply ---- Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.

Next it said to sfc /VERIFYONLY
It's reply -- Windows Resource Protection found integrity violations. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Wondering what the integrity violations could be ... This software came with laptop

This is more confusing than the question; everyone looks the same.
Im sure either way is good, but I have always suggested a CD and it always worked perfectly.

^ Yeah, if you're planning on sticking around for the long haul, it'd be best to find your own unique image to use as an avatar. That way you never have to worry about someone having the same as yours. :)

I don't think it was malicious intent. They both had selected the same avatar from the default gallery of avatars, so it was a little confusing when they were responding to each other. :)
