Vista Warning Message

Second time I receive message to backup important data now. This pre release version of Windows Vista Ultimate will expire in 12 days...........

I have no idea what is happening. I don't have a pre release version. I have a ligimate after release version. I have no idea what is going on or who to contact. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

How did you get your copy of Windows Vista Ultimate?

I got my copy from Amazon Purchase. I believe seller was "ryansmedia". I purchased on June 8, 1970 for $299.99. I received both the 32bit & 64bit discs with Product Key.

I have discovered that the warning messages were produced by SP1 and SP2 pre releases. I have successfully removed both of them - SP2 and SP1, respectively. My next question is could I go directly to SP2 and bypass SP1 or allow windows to install updates on its own?

No big deal, it just looked funny.

No way. There is a sequence of events in the updates. Suggest you let the system find the updates - may take a few days until you are back on SP2. You can trick the system a little by constantly changing the update time here: Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update\Change settings - always to the next hour. Then they come faster.

Not if you want the service packs, as they have to be 'triggered' so to speak.

Unfortunately, to get the Service packs+updates will require quite a few goes through Windows update.

Want to thank everyone for your help. Just thought to followup with the solution to problem I had. I never would have known I had a problem if I had never received warning message to backup data because of pre release version of OS was due to expire soon. Actually this was a message produced by the SP's 1 & 2. I had no idea that the service packs were pre releases - I just allowed OS to update on its own. I secure help from Microsoft and eventually ended up re-installing Vista Ultimate over my installation. This corrected some corrupt files, which prevented me from installing SP1 & SP2 (final releases). I was glad that I did not have to start from a clean drive again. I successfully installed SP1 and then SP2 and so far everything appears to be working correctly. I still think it strange that here I was working with someone (with Microsoft) in south part of India helping to fix problem here in US.

That's where most companies have their call centers these days. India graduates a large number of engineers each year (I once read about 10 times as many as the US) and those people are a good source for the support lines - plus they are cheaper than e.g. the US personnel.
