Vista updates are taking too much space

Hi,

I regularly install windows vista updates. It is taking too much space. Installing 400MB of updates wiped off 3GB from my C drive. has anybody faced similar issues? Please let me know about the resolution for the same.

Try disk clean up and also clear old restore points. I think this will solve your proble

Every time you install 'major' updates windows will first create a new system restore point (if you have it enabled, which you should, and it is by default).

If you find you're low on space just go to System restore window and DISABLE it.
This will completely wipe your HDD clear of ANY system restore points that were previously hogging up space. (these files/folders are hidden and you cant see them but they do diminish available diskspace).

After youve done this you can re-enable it and create a new restore point. That way you won't have 10+ useless restore point hogging up data but just 1, which is more than enough =)

Or a better idea if your low on space is to go to My Computer, Right click on your main drive, then click on Properties, then click on Disk Cleanup, Files from all users on this computer, go to the More Options tab, and click Clean up Where it says System Restore and Shadow Copies. This will delete all restore points EXCEPT for the most recent.

I do not concur with that strategy. You should always have as many restore points as possible. I reserve 30GBs by default on all my system partitions - that is good for about 30 restore points. And that is only to get me thru the week because I make a complete system image with Norton Ghost on each Sunday. The day your system goes on the blink or you lost some files you will be happy to have a choice of restore points. And by the way, what is the problem. 99% of the time the extra space that the restore points occupy on the disk is not needed anyhow.
