Vista Search

I'm using Vista Home Premium 64 bit. If I use the start button and enter a name in the search box any finds appear as normal. If I then click 'Search Everywhere' I get the following message.
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel.
The same message appears if I press the Windows-key and F-key which should bring up the advanced search dialog box.
Anyone know what's happening ?

Hello Ron,

You might see if running a sfc /scannow command may be able to fix this if there is a bad system file as fault.

If not, then doing a System Restore using a restore point dated when you think that it did work properly. You may need to do more than one until you find one dated far back enough.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thankyou for your reply.
I tried sfc /scannow which reported some errors could not be fixed and referred me to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
When I attempted to view the log I got an access denied message but by copying the file and pasting it into Documents I wasble to open it. The member files which could not be repaired all seemed to refer to the Windows Side Bar and Gadgets.
I still got the same message when I used Windows-key and F-key so I did a system restore to my earliest restore dated 29/4/2009.
After the system restore the error message changed to _
Exception EOleError in module APPLIC~1.DLL at 0001E22C. Type information missing for class TApplicationIndexingComparator.
When I ok'd this message it transpired that it was in respect of Copernic Desktop Search which I had installed a while ago in an attempt to find files which Vista seemed incapable of.
For now I shall undo the system restore and return hopefully to the original error message.
Thanks for your suggestions - anything further would be appreciated.
