vista "search"

ok, on my xp machine, search is straight forward. "search this" and it would find the exact text.

now on vista i love the search date feature date=00/00/00 ...dead handy for checkin freelance work and works a threat.

my prob is searching my fonts backup directory. there is a mix of loose fonts in separate folders and font families that are zipped. i have all search options turned on for a good search.

so if im looking for "Eurostile.ttf" (without quotes) it does't find it. even if i am in the exact directory where the font is (with index search option turned on also)

so my question is WHAT THE HELL????

yeap...all incarnations of a search string. no luck. even had "include non-indexed..."

is there any way of turning them all on by default (search pane, search ALL files, "include non-indexed...") ??

i've added the context menu search link (love that)...but same results of course

checked in another folder that had small amount of files, worked ok, but not my fonts directory with 1k+ fonts

Windows Search, whether using the Standard version included with Vista, or the Version 4.0 update, cannot index the contents of ZUP files without a third-party "IFilter", which for all intents and purposes, I have not yet found for ZIP files.

One other solution (although it won't help you search inside ZIP files) is to ensure that you entire drive is being indexed by the search service.

so my question is WHAT THE HELL????

Good question;)
Fonts folder is a particular folder and even an advanced search will not find any files within it.
I beleive m$oft made a proggy allowing to change folder properties, i remember seeing one XP time which maybe allow to make this folder as a standard system folder.
Anyway, just have a look (again) in the desktop.ini and you will understand.
I said again as few questions today were in relation with desktop.ini and i think it is time for me to write a subject (long) on this particular so udeful file.
