Earlier today my computer crashed and I have been unable to last 3 seconds in Normal mode without it crashing again. I tried to do a system restore from earlier today before I downloaded Steam but I can't seem to get it to work properly. So, now, I am just giving up and I want to do a complete system recovery but I do not have the disks. I would just use a torrent that are linked everywhere but I am using a school-issued laptop and torrents have never worked on here. Does anyone know where I can download the 62 bit version of the recovery disk without a torrent?
Many laptops have a recovery partition on the hard disk which, when invoked by pressing the appropriate key(s) when starting, will revert the system back to its original configuration. Check the manual for details on how to do this. Since the laptop was school-issued, you may need to ask them. If you provide full details of your laptop, we may be able to direct you to their website where you should be able to obtain, either as a download or a hard copy, the recovery disk(s) specific to your machine. Whatever you do, STEER WELL CLEAR of torrents as you can never be sure of the source(s) of programs (many versions found on such sources are hacked copies and will give you nothing but trouble and problems).
I haven't used any Steam related programs, but I suspect that Steam isn't fully Vista x64 compatible, which could explain your problem.
